A business analyst bridges business and technology by uncovering needs and translating them into requirements and recommendations that create value. Business analysis is about building an understanding of your business, your product and your users, and turning that knowledge into a description of needs and solutions. It is a versatile profession that covers everything from strategic analysis to concrete solution evaluation, combining strategic thinking, meaningful solutions and close collaboration with people.

One of the paths to a career as a business analyst is to pursue a master’s degree. We have examined the Danish master's programmes that can qualify you for a position as a business analyst and analysed them for their common features. In this article, we outline the skills that can be learned at university that are useful for business analysts.

Are you looking for an education that prepares you for a career as a business analyst? Or have you recently graduated and are unsure which aspects to highlight in your job search? Then look for the learning objectives and skills we highlight in this article, as well as the academic discipline the programme is built on.

Method

We reviewed the Danish universities' websites and identified 15 master's programmes that describe career opportunities within business analysis. The analysis was carried out in August 2026. We used generative AI to structure the content into the categories of learning objectives, knowledge and skills. The purpose was to create a format that enabled comparison across the programmes. We then filtered out content that falls outside business analysis. Finally, we asked generative AI to summarise the most prominent themes across the programmes within each category.

Results

Overall, the programmes focus on problem-solving, innovation, connecting business and IT, responsible digitalisation and interdisciplinary work. All topics that are central to business analysts. If you have completed a degree that includes these elements, a career as a business analyst might be something for you.

We talked to her about the transition, and you can read her reflections here: Becoming a Business Analyst: How a New Graduate Navigates the Role’s Complexity

How was generative AI used for this text?

Apart from the use described in the text itself, AI was used to translate between Danish and English, and between English and Danish.
