How can AI support business analysts in shaping stakeholder requirements?

That was the central question explored at the IIBA Denmark event, where members came together to learn, share, and experiment with AI’s role in business analysis

We were thrilled to host Pamela Paterson, MS, CBAP, PMP for an inspiring session on how business analysts can move beyond simply knowing AI to applying it effectively in their work.

Through a compelling case study, Pamela showed how a large-scale ERP project with over 1,500 use cases leveraged AI to generate consistent process maps, work instructions, training materials, and test cases — all while meeting deadlines and ensuring quality.

Drawing on her deep expertise and her contributions to business analysis standards, Pamela offered practical strategies and mindsets for embracing AI in the BA profession.

Key highlights from her talk included:

  • Applying the IIBA’s Business Analysis Capability Model to AI.

  • A real-world case study on transforming 1,500 use cases into user stories using AI.

  • Pamela’s personal approach to getting the most from AI tools.

The session wasn’t just about learning — it was about doing. Participants engaged in an interactive heatmap exercise to identify where AI could bring the most value in their daily BA work. This collective visualization sparked lively discussion around opportunities, risks, and the enduring importance of human judgment.

Themes that emerged during the session:

  • Acceleration with quality — AI can reduce time spent on documentation and repetitive tasks.

  • Human oversight matters — Context, empathy, and innovation remain uniquely human strengths.

  • Collaboration creates insight — Visual tools help teams prioritize where AI adds real value.

Pamela reminded us that AI should be seen not just as a tool, but as a thoughtful partner in business analysis — one that must be applied ethically, responsibly, and with stakeholder trust at the center. As one participant put it, AI can be thought of as an “Automated Intern.”

Her parting advice for business analysts curious about AI?  “Just ask AI!”

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the energy, curiosity, and insights you brought to the session. Together, we’re charting the path toward an AI-ready business analysis practice.

Stay tuned for more events where we’ll continue to explore how technology and human skills can complement each other to shape the future of our profession.
